About the Event
The Entrepreneur and Small Business is delighted to present  Part 4 of the Signature Series: Launching and Growing a Business Successfully. The Seminar “Money on the Table: The Evolution of Fundraising” consists of two parts:
 
Part 1 - An Overview
We have invited two special guest speakers, Mr. Peter Luk, Associate Director, Business Development, Mainland and International from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) and Ms. Alice So, Head of Entrepreneurship from Cyberport.

Peter and Alice will give us an overview about how they fuel local economy, speed up the growth of entrepreneurs and help expand the business of SMEs and technology start-ups.  They will share with the audience their roles in HKSTP and Cyberport with a focus on the funding opportunities.

Mr. Peter Luk

Mr. Peter Luk is the Associate Director, Business Development, Mainland & International in the Commercial Division  of HKSTP.  Peter's office is located at 7/F of Bio-informatics Building (2W).  Reporting to COO, Peter focuses on driving the overall international strategic partnerships and initiatives to identify business opportunities for Innovaion, Technology and Entrepreneurship.

Peter obtained a Master of Information Technology from Macquarie University, a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of London and the Cambridge University respectively.  He is a seasoned professional in business development, successfully building extensive networks and various kinds of partnerships/engagement with tech giants worldwide including Google, Facebook, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, IBM, Huawei, Accenture, etc.  In addition, he had held several senior positions in leading technology companies including Regional Director, Industry Solution & Customer in Oracle and Director, Product Marketing, Digital Platform & Infrastructure Management in Microsoft.


Ms. Alice So
Head of Entrepreneurship
Cyberport

 

Ms. Alice So has been dedicated to provide supports to Hong Kong start-ups for 10 years.  Before she joined Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited in 2011, she supported the design-related start-ups for yearst at Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks .  Currently as the Head of Entrepreneurship, Alice leads the Team to nurture talents and assist start-ups at different life stages to accelerate in the digital tech industry worldwide, through the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund and the Cyberport Incubation Programme with financial support and professional services.

Alice has been in the judging panels for regional technology and innovation awards including the Hong Kong ICT Awards in Smart People track, Jumpstarter 2017 of Alibaba Entrepreneurs Funds, etc.  Alice is a Project Management Professional of Project Management Institute.


Ms. Ryanne Lai

Ms. Ryanne Lai is a co-founder and the Head of Lawyer Relations of Zegal (Head of Partnerships).  Zegal is based in Hong Kong at the Cyberport and its original start-up was selected as one of the Cyberport incubatee companies in 2014.  Ryanne will share the story of how Zegal was founded and raised funding. Most importantly, the audience will get to know Zegal grows from an incubator in Cyberport to the fastest growing Legal Tech company operating across Asia Pacific and Europe.

Zegal was founded in 2013.  Today, more than 30,000 business users and lawyers accross the globe trust Zegal's software to solve legal problems in an affordable and efficient way.  Before joining Zegal, Ryanne was a lawyer at Mayer Brown JSM, and was qualified in Hong Kong, England and Wales.

Mr. Steven Fung is a Partner of the International Patent and Trademark Attorney Firm, Marks & Clerk.  He predominately works with Engineers, Scientists and Industrialists in protecting their innovations and technology developments.

Originally born and raised in Hong Kong, Steven studied in Australia where he qualified as an Engineer, Lawyer, Patent and Trademark Attorney.  Steven worked as a Patent Examiner with the Australian Patent Office and as a Patent Attorney before he returned to Hong Kong to pratice IP Law.

Steven is interested in training and developing the skills of the local profession.  He has been a trailblazer in setting up a successful Attorney-Trainee programme in his firm to offer opportunities for graduates to join the IP profession.  Having benefited from the training and patience of his mentors, he is also committed to sharing and mentoring the next generation of Patent Attorneys.

Mr. Frank Lee
Patent Engineer (UK)

Mr. Frank Lee is a part-qualified UK patent attorney at the International Patent and Trademark Attorney Firm, Marks & Clerk. He specializes in patents and designs, and has extensive experience in the mechanical, electrical, electronics, and biomedical fields.

Frank graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a medical engineering degree and an electrical engineering master.  Before joining the patent profession, Frank was a researcher at the MRI Research Lab at the University of Hong Kong.

Frank has substantive experience working not only in private practice but also in-house. He is actively involved in the local and regional startup scene. Frank is a mentor for a number of local and regional accelerator programs.

Mr. Pádraig Walsh is a Partner at Hong Kong law firm Tanner De Witt where he broadly focuses on clients within the technology sector (including fintech, insurtech, regtech, medtech, edutech, and cleantech).  His work encompasses advice on PE and debt financings, leading on investment negotiations and completion, and preparing documents to implement deal terms.

Pádraig also advises on the range of common issues for emerging companies such as corporate structuring, IP licensing, equity incentive plans, and shareholder disputes, representing both investors, strategics, and founders. Pádraig’s practice also includes assisting clients on licensing, regulatory and compliance which has enabled him to advise clients on a number of innovative, complex fintech projects. He is at the forefront of advising on legal issues for emerging businesses using blockchain technology
